In the current wave of celebrating queer representation in media, it’s heartening to see love stories from various perspectives gaining visibility. However, as a black boy from Haiti, I find myself pondering the limited portrayal of people of color in queer narratives.

While exploring shows like « Fellow Travelers » and anticipating « Spoiler Alert, » the scarcity of love stories reflecting my perspective is evident. « POSE » stands out, but the broader landscape needs more narratives that capture the nuances of love from a person of color’s viewpoint.

As we appreciate the strides made in LGBTQ+ storytelling, it’s crucial to acknowledge the gaps. The voices of people of color, especially in the LGBTQ+ community, need more space. Supporting POC screenwriters and filmmakers is essential for bringing diverse stories to light.
Exploring the context of pre-Stonewall times through films has deepened my understanding, but I wish more narratives included the intersectionality of race and sexual orientation. The power of storytelling lies in its diversity. Let’s ensure that queer love, in all its forms, is authentically represented on screen, fostering a richer and more inclusive media landscape.
