Free falling

Dear readers,

This blog, which is usually light-hearted, takes on a much more serious tone today. Yesterday, we all watched the United States choose their leader and endanger the rights of all uteruses and marginalized people living within its borders. The U.S. does not love you; the U.S. has never loved us. Nothing surprises me; it’s been less than a century since Afro-descendants were granted civil and political rights.

This chapter of history serves as a reminder that the U.S. has always failed when it came to protecting those who needed it most. Far from being an innocent choice, it is a warning to other countries, especially those with radical political movements, and to those fighting for the well-being of all people.

The U.S. has once again chosen to elect the clown-in-chief, after using several Latin American countries as guinea pigs (we had our own clown who siphoned off PetroCaribe funds with his gang). The U.S. interference in the affairs of other nations speaks for itself. Yes, I’m sorry that some people I love will likely endure four years of terror, but that country has the leader it deserves. And I repeat, the white heterosexual man is not your friend.

“I have come to a sobering realization: too many Haitians today have lost sight of what Haiti stands for in this world, what it truly means to be Haitian. It is both heartbreaking and deeply disturbing that, in 2024, descendants of Makandal, Dessalines, Marie-Claire Heureuse, and Sanité Bélair could support or even entertain ideologies rooted in white supremacy. This betrayal echoes not just in Haiti but across the diaspora.” – Orlando Aurelien

My pain comes from this diaspora that, fortified by their supposed privileges, chose to vote against immigrants. I despise you; you bring shame to Dessalines, to the libertarian Maroons, to Makandal, to your ancestor who survived in the holds of the slave ships, to your boat people ancestor, to the ancestor who escaped the dictatorship. The white man is not your friend.

I hate, despise, and curse all those who, through their actions—whether assumed or proven—have contributed to the decline of this country I love. I will dance on your graves.

Let us remain united, vigilant, and supportive.
